Chess Competition Plan!

Event Details:
We’re organizing an exciting chess tournament for 20 players in our department. The event is designed to be fast-paced, competitive, and fun for everyone involved!
How the Tournament Works
1. Format:
All players will compete in 5 rounds.
It’s a Swiss-system format, meaning players with similar scores face each other in every round. Everyone plays all 5 rounds, no eliminations!

2. Game Time:
Each player gets 10 minutes to make their moves, with an extra 2 seconds per move to keep things quick and fair.
If your time runs out, you lose the game (unless your opponent can’t checkmate).

3. Rules:
Standard chess rules apply (like checkmate, stalemate, etc.).
If you make an illegal move twice, you lose the game.
Be on time! If you're more than 5 minutes late for your match, you forfeit that round.
Cheating or unsporting behavior will result in disqualification.

4. How Matches Are Decided:
Round 1 pairings are random.
From Round 2 onwards, players are paired based on their scores. For example, winners face other winners, and so on.
By Round 5, the top players will face off to determine the final rankings.

5. How We Keep Score:
Win: 1 point
Draw: 0.5 points
Loss: 0 points
In case of ties, we’ll use the Buchholz system, which looks at the strength of the opponents you’ve played.
